QUILTS FROM THE HEART *Quick Projects for Generous Giving*
Karin Renaud put this book together after making and donating over 30 quilts to Project Linus--a volunteer organization that provides quilts to cancer patients, and children who have suffered traumas and abuse. The book is a wonderful collection of scrap quilts all on the beginner-advanced beginner skill level, and the projects are colorful, and inviting. After one perusal of the book, I sat and planned four different quilts! The quilts are all smaller in size, but could easily be enlarged. Being aimed at children, Renaud's patterns are done in bright colors designed to bring smiles. She includes several patterns that are great showcases for fussy-cut fabrics. The diagrams are simple and clear, so much so that it's hard not to start on a project as soon as you read about it. And there is a section on basic quilting techniques that is well-laid out and doesn't take too much of the book.
If you have lots of scraps and a few hours of time for volunteering, this book provides 20 patterns to help you turn your love for quilting into a warm quilt for donation. Projects like this--for charitable causes--allow me to justify my repeated buying of fabric, and my many quilt blocks started out of sheer love of sewing and quilting.
Most quilters I know have a soft spot for the needs of others, and this book gives great ideas and instructions on how to turn the need to help into real results as quickly as possible.
